The IT and Systems Administrator assumes responsibility for enterprise wide IT and systems management and assist with day to day operations at the Heart Institute of the Caribbean and its affiliated entities.
The IT and Systems Administrator will oversee the function and maintenance of all systems equipment and computers within the Heart Institute of The Caribbean. They will plan, coordinate, direct, and design IT-related activities of the organization, as well as provide administrative direction and support for daily operational activities of the IT department. Responsibilities will include maintaining data center, monitoring equipment and trouble shooting all IT related issues.
Work closely with decision makers in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization. Also define and implement IT policies, procedures, and best practices in the medical industry.
Assume responsibility for day to day IT operations, systems management and maintenance of the organization and its affiliated entities in all locations. This individual will work directly with the Management Team to meet strategic goals of the organization ensuring efficient and smooth operations without compromising quality, patient satisfaction or employee morale.
Will be responsible for purchasing and inventory management of all IT related equipment and resources.
Design and manage an effective curriculum and seminar for training of individuals in skills related to computer systems and medical informatics. Such training programs are expected to occur regularly and designed to meet the needs of HIC staff and external candidates in keeping with the training and educational objectives of the Heart Institute of the Caribbean.
Be able to act as website officer and be responsible for, as well as manage internet commerce for the company and its affiliated entities.
Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
Maintain and support a hospital record management system
Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.
Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.
Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field required
Industry certifications and memberships a plus Microsoft / Unix
Excellent IT, communication, leadership and management skills
Proven track record of maintaining IT structural integrity
Knowledge of medical equipment is an asset
